Obituary of Carolyn Wheller

Basking Ridge: Carolyn Knapp Wheller, age 93, died peacefully in her home at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge on Monday, August 15, 2016. A lifelong New Jersey resident, she was born in Orange and grew up in South Orange. She lived in Summit from 1952 until moving to Basking Ridge in 2004. She attended Miss Beard's School in Orange, Bennett Junior College in Millbrook, NY and Parsons School of Design in New York City. Mrs. Wheller was a gifted artist who enjoyed watercolors, needlepoint and interior design. She grew up with a love of horses and was part of the Montclair Mounted Troop. Throughout her life she loved the adventure of travel, from horseback riding in Montana, to Miami Beach and Europe. Mrs. Wheller was also passionate about volunteering. During World War II she drove military personnel around the Tri-State area, she was a hospital volunteer at Overlook Hospital and was an active member of the Summit Junior League. She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Harry S. Wheller, Jr. in 1999. Surviving are her son, H. Stewart Wheller, III and his wife, Patricia Cullen; her daughter, Wendy Wheller DeLuca and her husband, Peter J. and her grandchildren, DeWitt Charles DeLuca and Christopher Wheller DeLuca. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 19th at 11:00am, in Fellowship Hall, Fellowship Village, 8000 Fellowship Road, Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to The Fellowship Senior Living Legacy Fund, 8000 Fellowship Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
