Obituary of Sr. Raymond Alkazin

Sister Mary Raymond (Sister Patricia) Alkazin Sister of Mercy Sister Mary Raymond (Sister Patricia) Alkazin, 94 of Cranford, NJ passed away peacefully Thursday, August 18, 2016. Born in Atlantic City NJ on March 27, 1922, to the late William Alkazin and Mary Jameson and predeceased by sisters, Mary Wyatt, Rita Peters and Barbara Alkazin and brother William Alkazin, Jr. Sister Raymond was a Sister of Mercy siince 1941. Sister spent most of those years as a chemistry teacher at diocesan high schools in Lawrenceville, Red Bank, Perth Amboy, Absecon and Scotch Plains, New Jersey and in Fall River, Massachusetts. Among her many accomplishments is the creation of the Union Catholic High School, Scotch Plains, NJ, Environmental Club which continues today and, in 1998, under her leadership, received the U.S. Region 2 President's Environmental Youth Award presented to her and the club members at the White House. Sister Raymond's final years were spent providing friendship, support and a prayerful presence to the parishioners of St. Michael Parish, Cranford, NJ. Sister Mary Raymond's surviving siblings are Theresa LaRocca (Frank) of Atlantic City, Sue Egony of Fort Myers Beach, FL, sister-in-law Bette Alkazin of Cedar Brook, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews and many Sisters in the Mid-Atlantic Community Sister Raymond is fondly remembered as a person with a gentle and welcoming spirit and as a humble, prayerful religious sister who, throughout her life, cared deeply for people and reached out to help those in need.
