Obituary of Pia M. Martino

Watchung: Pia M. (DeCarolis) Martino, age 85, died on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Rehab at Rivers Edge in Raritan. Born in Fontechiari, Italy, she had resided in Brooklyn, NY, Schenectady, NY, Newark, NJ Orange, NJ for 20 years before settling in Watchung for the last 37 years. Pia volunteered at Blessed Sacrament Church, Martinsville, McAuley Hall and Villa Maria Nursing homes in Watchung. Pia enjoyed crocheting and was a great seamstress. Pia loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed. Predeceased by her husband Emilio Martino, parents, Ergino and Filomena DeCarolis, brother Nicola DeCarolis, sister and brother-in-law Elena and Felice Borgonsoli. Survived by her son Pietro Martino and his wife Rosebud, daughters Roseann Salerno and her husband Joseph and Dolores Walker and her husband Douglas; 7 grandchildren Siena, Bianca, Mario and Angelo Martino, Emily Salerno and Jaime and Brianna Walker; brother Ezio DeCarolis and his wife Gina; sister Antonietta Messercola and her husband Augusto and sister-in-law Eufrasia DeCarolis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016, from 4-8 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15th at 9 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, Martinsville. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Donations in her loving memory can be made to: St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
