Mary Nahrebne Vachino, age 100, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017, at Manor Care in New Providence after a brief illness. Born and raised in Bayonne, she was one of eight children. In 1936, she married the love of her life, Fred. They moved to Warren in 1960.
In 1950, Mary, along with Fred, founded Fred Vachino & Sons, Inc., a pressure washing and steam cleaning company in Elizabeth. This business continues today and employs her sons, daughter, and grandson. Besides raising her family, Mary actively participated in the business in her role as President. She enjoyed going to work every day, meeting the customers, and directing the daily activities in the business. She never retired.
Mary loved to travel and, with Fred, they toured the United States and visited many countries all over the world. She especially loved going to Italy and returning to the village where Fred was born. The many relatives who live in Italy welcomed her with open arms.
Mary was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s Stony Hill Church in Watchung.
After 68 years of marriage, her husband Fedele “Fred” predeceased her in 2004.
Surviving are her two sons, Rinaldo and his wife Edvarda of Elizabeth, Fred of Manchester, a daughter, Barbara Shapp and her husband Ray of Watchung, a sister, Catherine Buturla of New York, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Stony Hill Church, Watchung. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery.
