Obituary of Ellen Jablon

Ellen Jablon, age 77, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 in Edison, NJ. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Esther and Samuel Shapiro on December 22, 1939 and resided in Staten Island for many years before moving to Edison in 2010. Ellen graduated from Tilden High School and attended Brooklyn College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960, followed soon thereafter by a Masters degree in Education. She was an elementary school teacher in the New York City public school system for over 35 years, retiring from PS 1 in Staten Island where she had taught for more than a decade. Ellen loved nature, flower gardening, traveling to beautiful places, and spending summers enjoying the lakes and mountains in the Catskills. Ellen is survived by her daughter Marianne Jablon, son-in-law Jonathan Strahan, grandchildren Jessica and Sophie; her daughter Joanna Brooks, son-in-law Thomas Brooks; and son Daniel Jablon, daughter-in-law Amy Winkler, and grandchildren Raina and Jacob; and her brother Henry Shapiro. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069.
