Obituary of Harry Joseph Zoda

North Plainfield: Harry Joseph Zoda, age 92, passed away on Friday May 12, 2017 at his home in North Plainfield surrounded by his family. Born in Niagara Falls NY, Mr. Zoda had resided in North Plainfield for over 65 years.

Mr. Zoda had begun his career as a mechanic for the Borden Company and later for Johanna Foods Inc. in Flemington retiring in 1989. After his retirement Mr. Zoda worked for ten years at the Warren Brook Public Golf Course in Warren.

Mr. Zoda proudly severed in the United States Navy having enlisted at the age of 17. He was stationed on The U.S.S. Strong when on July 5, 1943 it was torpedoed and sank by the Japanese, he was one of the few survivors that had went into the ocean.

Mr. Zoda was an active member of St. Luke’s RC Church in North Plainfield and was an usher . In his younger years Mr. Zoda was a local little league coach and Boy Scout leader. He was also an avid golfer and especially enjoyed playing with his favorite partner; his son Michael.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Elizabeth (Herbst) Zoda; a son Michael and his wife Kathleen of North Plainfield and a daughter Patricia Marino. His also survived by three grandchildren Patrick Marino and Timothy and Tayler Zoda.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday May 16, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Luke’s RC Church in North Plainfield followed by the interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Funeral services are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ
