Obituary of Harold Brown

Harold Brown Jr. Plainfield: Harold Brown Jr., age 87, entered enteral rest on Sunday June 17, 2017 at his home in Plainfield surrounded by his family. Born in Ellicott, MD. to the late Harold Brown Sr. and Bertha (Wallace) Brown. Mr. Brown enlisted in the Army and had been stationed in Germany, Kentucky, Alaska and upstate New York before settling in Plainfield with his wife Milcah Brown over 60 years ago. After serving in the military for 16 years, Mr. Brown retired as a Staff Sergeant. He went on to earn an associate's degree in Liberal Arts from Union County Community College. Mr. Brown later worked as a custodian at Jefferson School in Plainfield for many years. He also volunteered at the school in their reading and writing programs. Mr. Brown was an active member of the Plainfield VFW, where he was the past secretary and also a member of TREA , an organization for retired enlisted serviceman in Watchung. Mr. Brown was an avid historian and enjoyed reading about the military. He collected coins and vintage records and liked playing the lottery. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Milcah (Bowie) Brown; a son Harold Brown III and his wife Toni (Williams); a daughter Celeste Brown; a brother Herbert Brown and his wife Victoria and a sister –in-law Ellen P. Smith. He is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews and a host of loving family and friends. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ followed by a home going service at 12 at the funeral home. The interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
