Obituary of Kevin Patrick Mc Govern

Kevin Patrick Mc Govern, age 70, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at his home in Bridgewater. Born in Brooklyn, he lived there for many years before moving to Bridgewater in 1985. Mr. Mc Govern attended St. Ephrems Grammer School and Cathedral Prep High School in Brooklyn. He was a 1954 graduate of College of Immaculate Conception in Huntington, LI. He received his L.L.D. in 1963 from Fordham University School of Law in NYC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (1956-1960), having served in the Lebanese Conflict in Beirut. In 1963, he was admitted to the NY Bar and to the NJ Bar in 1985. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a self-employed Attorney in Brooklyn, NY and Bridgewater for over 40 years. He specialized in corporate law, surrogates court practice and criminal litigation. He was known to take on Pro Bono legal work for the right to life and anti-abortion groups. He was Arbitrator with Federal Mediation Services, NY State Mediation Board, the NJ State Board of Mediation and American Arbitration, and a member of the Governors Judicial NY State Screening Panel. He was an active 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of the Hills, Council No. 5959 and was the Knight Commander of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and an avid participant in the pro-life movement. He enjoyed reading and entertaining family and friends. Mr. Mc Govern is survived by his wife of 35 years, Bernadette T. (Halloran) Mc Govern of Bridgewater; three sons, Patrick J. McGovern III of Cincinatti, OH, Kevin M. Mc Govern of Bridgewater, and Aidan J. Mc Govern of Bridgewater; six daughters, Erin Noonan and her husband Patrick of Bridgewater, Dierdre Mc Govern of Bridgewater, Mary McLoughlin and her husband Charles of Branchburg, Bernadette Hamm and her husband Peter of Dunellen, Marie Mc Govern of Bridgewater and Maureen Mc Govern of Bridgewater; one brother, John J. Mc Govern and his wife Ann of Pine Beach; two grandchildren, Sean and Sheila Noonan; one step-grandson, Jordan Withers; and his beloved dog Rascal. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Angels in Brooklyn. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 11th and Sunday, October 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ, 07069. A local Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, October 18th at 12:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Church on Washington Valley Road in Martinsville.
