Obituary of Mekal Einar Jansen

Mekal Frank Einar Jansen, age 84, of Warren, died on Saturday, October 25th at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Mr. Jansen was born in Jersey City and had lived in Warren since 1955, having formerly lived in South Plainfield. Mr. Jansen was a Staff Sergeant during WWII, seeing combat in Africa, Sicily, Normandy, France, Belgium and Germany. He was wounded in combat 4 times and received numerous awards and citations. He was the owner of Grafikhaus, an advertising agency in Plainfield, for 10 years, retiring 15 years ago. Prior to starting his own agency, he worked for many years as an Art Director for the J. Walter Thompson Agency in Manhattan. Frank loved the outdoors, especially camping with his family and riding his Morgan horse BW. He knew no greater joy than spending time with his family. Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years, Anne Knutsen Jansen, two sons, Barry and his wife Shirley of Pittstown, Mark of Warren, a daughter Bobbi Roman of Mt. Vernon, a sister Elsie Haukdal of Martinsville, 4 grandchildren, Stephen Veefkind, Erik Jansen, Lisa Hitcho and Paul Basile; and five greag-grandchildren, Amber Hitcho, Mia Lee Veefkind, Alex Hitcho, Arianna Basile, and Clayton Basile. Memorial services will be held on November 22nd at 11:00 am at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Warren.
