OBITUARY Sidney Singer Business Founder Sid Singer, age 80, died on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Mr. Singer resided in North Plainfield for over 40 years before re-locating to Clearbrook in Cranbury 10 years ago. After attending Brooklyn College, he served his country during W.W.II as a Flight Engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In addition, Mr. Singer was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Temple Beth-El of Plainfield, the Plainfield Masonic Lodge and a performing member of the Workman Circle Mandolin Orchestra. An astute businessman, Mr. Singer owned and operated several businesses in his lifetime. In 1961, he was most proud of founding and operating the Automatic Ice Maker Company in Middlesex, until his retirement in 1991. At that time his two sons took over the operation of the business. Mr. Singer was predeceased by his wife, Esther in 1996. He is survived by his two sons, Douglas and his wife Renee of Martinsville and Jordan and his wife Laura of Bridgewater. One daughter, Stephanie of Fort Meyers, Florida. Mr. Singer is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Kelly, Jessica, Philip, and Matthew, as well as his loving companion Rita Simon. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24th at 12 noon in Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung. Interment will be at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. In lieu of sitting shiva, the family asks that all who wish to celebrate his life, as well as mourn his passing, join them at the funeral home on Monday, November 24th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, 212 Trenton Road, Browns Mills, NJ 08015.
