Obituary of Richard B. Umansky

Mr. Richard Benjamin Umansky, 48, died Sunday, November 23, 2003 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital from injuries sustained in a fall from a platform at Camp Randall Stadium while preparing for coverage of the Iowa-Wisconsin football game. Born in Toledo, Ohio, he resided in Plainfield before moving to South Florida 17 years ago. He has made his home in Davie, Florida for the past seven years. Mr. Umansky was employed for nearly twenty five years as a television camera operator for ABC Sports in New York, as well as Fox Sports Florida. He covered the Miami Marlins, The Florida Panthers, The Miami Heat and The Miami Dolphins. He traveled nationwide covering college football, Monday Night Football, The World Series, The Stanley Cup Playoffs, The PGA Tour, as well as several Olympic Games. Surviving are his parents Harold and Thelma Groschefsky Umansky of Plainfield , his twin brother Mark D. Umansky of Huntsville, AL; a sister Paula L. Fairchild and her husband William Fairchild and their two children Sarah and Sam of Atlanta, GA; a brother Paul J. Umansky and his wife Lisa and their two children, Emily and Hannah of Rockville Centre, NY. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield with Rabbi Joel Abraham officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin.
