Obituary of Richard Schneider

Mr. Richard E. Schneider, 77, of Lancaster, PA, died Monday at the home of his daughter in Basking Ridge. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he resided in North Plainfield for 27 years before moving to Lancaster, PA 15 years ago. Mr. Schneider received a BS Degree in Teaching from Millersville University in Millersville, PA. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. Prior to retiring 15 years ago, he was employed as a teacher for the North Plainfield School System for 33 years. He was a track, basketball and football coach. He received two Hall of Fame Awards for his contributions to coaching. One was from the town of North Plainfield and the other from the State of New Jersey. Mr. Schneider attended services with his daughter at St. James R.C. Church in Basking Ridge. He was a member of the NJEA. He was an avid reader and sports fan. He was known for smoking cigars. His wife Feryn Fawber Schneider predeceased him in 2001. Surviving are his three sons, Ronald E. of Ridgewood; Paul D. of Hampton; Jack N. of Easton, PA; a daughter Susan L. and her husband Norman Wainwright of Basking Ridge; a brother Donald Schneider of West Chester, PA and five grandchilderen, Jessica, Andrew, Justin, Kevin and Tom. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2003 at 10:30 am at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
