Obituary of James J. Glynn, Jr.

James (Jim) J. Glynn, Jr., 87, of Martinsville, NJ, passed away with his family by his side on Monday, April 10, 2017. Jim was born in Elizabeth, NJ, to James and Alicia Glynn and grew up in Hillside, NJ. He moved into the house he built in Martinsville in 1959. James graduated from Seton Hall University with a B.A. and Rutgers University with his Master's degree in Business. Jim served in the US Army and US Army Reserves from 1952 until 1957. During the 1960's and 1970's, Jim worked in Trenton for the State of NJ and then on Wall Street for Blythe and Company and SGS, Inc. In 1980 he started his own company Comtrol Services, Inc, in Clark, NJ, which grew into a leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, with seven port locations and over 100 employees across the US. He retired in 2001. For many years Jim supported the activities of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, not long ago celebrating 50 years of service as lead usher for the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass. He also volunteered his time to the Lion's Club and in fundraising activities for the Adult Day Center of Somerset County and for the Martinsville Community Center, of which he served on the Board and as President during his retirement. Jim was an accomplished woodworker and avid gardener who also enjoyed traveling, fishing, baking and most importantly, spending time with family. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, all will miss him. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Carol and his brother, John. Surviving are his brother George of Mullica Hill, NJ, daughter Alicia Gabrielski and husband Robert of Martinsville, daughter Barbara Jean Alves, of Basking Ridge, son-in-law, Eliseu Alves of Princeton, son James J. Glynn III of Martinsville and four grandchildren Michael and his wife Katherine of Bedminster, John of Hoboken, Elena of Basking Ridge and Brian of Martinsville. Family and friends are invited to the viewing on Monday April 17, 2017 at Higgins Funeral Home, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 9 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 AM burial mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Adult Day Center of Somerset County, 872 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 and Alzheimer's Association.
