I just learned of Joe’s passing. I grew up in Scotch Plains and was two years younger than Joe. We first met when I was a kid and we were on the Scotch Plains Fanwood Little League Baseball team the Indians way back in 1970. He was a larger than life figure to me even then insisting on fair play and would not allow anyone to be bullied or mocked. He was one of the greatest persons I ever encountered and he was the embodiment of good and kindness. God bless! John Wilk

I came across this accidentally and was shocked to hear of my old friend Joey's passing. It has brought back a flood of memories of our days in High School and your wonderful and generous family.
We spent many weekends hanging out in your basement, and days skipping school at the D'Annunzio compound. I remember many times being thrown in your swimming pool!
Joey had that wonderful smile and mischievous gleam in his eye. You always knew something funny was about to happen.
I moved away from NJ many years ago but those High School memories live on in so many of us.
God bless you Joey, your parents and brothers and sisters. You will live on in all our wonderful memories! <3

I have not seen Joey D since the 70s, but his image and personality are clear in my mind - handsome, sweet, charming, kind, upbeat, athletic, funny and fun who always had something nice to say. He taught me the joy of eating cold pizza, out of the fridge the next morning. A truly great guy from a very special and wonderful family. My thoughts and prayers are with the D'Annunzios.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joe's family. We just heard about his passing. I have great memories of playing softball with the D'Annunzio brothers. A terrific family! I moved out of NJ to Md with my family over 31 years ago but will always think of Scotch Plains as my home. The D'Annunzio family is part of the fabric of SP. All the best!

Deepest sympathy to the D'Annunzio family. I will always remember the bright love for life that he shared with everyone. He made you laugh, he was always concerned about you and how your kids were doing. Family meant everything to him and he was the type of person you knew that if you called in the middle of the night for help he would be on his way in minutes. Whether we were arm wrestling in my kitchen or getting neck cramps in Naples while in the passenger seat of the Maserati, he loved life. God broke the mold with Joey, but the memories the family and friends hold can never be taken away. RIP.

Certain people walk into our lives, and we recognize their presence as a gift from God. That is certainly true about the entire D'Annunzio family . . .Here in Naples, FL at our Naples Italian American Foundation, we have been blessed, not only knowing Joe, Sr and Viola D'Annunzio, but most of their kids and grand kids . . . Their son Joey spent more time down here with us, and we worked with him on our last golf tournament, which his Dad had initiated in 2008 . . . We all had great affection for "our" Joey. His warmth, caring, and generosity that he inherited from his Mom and Dad touched our hearts . . .
To say we will miss him, is an understatement . . . he was a large part of our lives and our NIAFoundation family . . . As always, Joey, you will be in my prayers.
