YB and I were life-long friends, meeting when we were only six years old. We lived two blocks away and went to the same elementary school for six years. As a child, he was already the type of person you knew you’d be great friends with. We had a wonderful childhood together. Sadly, by the time we were to attend middle school, he had moved to another city.
For the next sixty years, we never lived close to each other again, but our friendship always continued.Throughout the years, we would try to find time to get together, like arranging vacations, where we would play a round or two of golf, watch a broadway show, and enjoy a good meal.
Both of us grew up in a doctor's family; and, with very similar backgrounds, it was no coincidence that we both would become doctors as well. We shared the same interests and always had plenty of common things to talk about including what we enjoyed in life . He would even go above and beyond volunteering with medical teams to serve wherever needed. It just showed his good nature of always wanting to serve others throughout his life.
He was always committed to his family as well. In the last two years, as a caretaker for Julia, things had gotten really tough. But, he never complained, and always showed a positive attitude with a complete devotion to her. He also loved spending time with his talented grandson, Ethan - always sharing videos of his beautiful golf swing and exceptional Cello performances.
YB was a great husband, father, and friend - and truly a terrific, genuine person. I would never think he would leave us so unexpectedly, but God apparently had different plans. If YB can hear me now, I would like to say:
“Hey, Ban! You go first, but be ready! We will join you soon! I miss you already, my dear friend!”
