Obituary of Anthony Assini
Anthony Assini, 82, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Born on September 24, 1942, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Anthony lived a life filled with passion and creativity, demonstrating his joie de vivre. A true renaissance man, he pursued many interests including fly-fishing, hunting, aviation, horseback riding, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, painting, acting, skiing, body-building, football, cooking, wine and beer-making and everything Italian. His love for knowledge made him an avid reader and an unbeatable competitor in any game of Trivial Pursuit.
Anthony was a respected leader in the hair-coloring and styling industry and the proud owner for 20 years of Salon Assini in Watchung, New Jersey. His dedication to his craft and his clients left a lasting impact on those who knew him professionally. Anthony received his training at leading salons in New York and London. Besides overseeing his own business, he practiced his art in the fashion capitals of the world. A member of the Congress of Colorists since 1977, Anthony held more than 15 national and international hair styling awards, including that of Eastern United States Champion. He taught hair styling and coloring to other professionals in each of the 48 continental United States.
Anthony was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, demonstrating his commitment to community, service and faith. He paired this commitment with his love of cooking, and was the chef for many spaghetti dinners at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, New Jersey.
Above all else, Anthony cherished his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his brother Claude and wife Joanne; his nieces Claudia, Cindy and husband Mark; and their children Michael and wife Tara; Robert; and Adam. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Brenda and husband Kurt; their children Michael and wife Jeanette; Christopher and wife Stephanie and child Liam; and Julie. His presence brought joy to those around him, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. A Mass will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1890 Washington Valley Rd, Martinsville, NJ 08836. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
