Robert Hall

Obituary of Robert L. Hall

Our beloved and cherished father, Robert Lewis Hall passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, surrounded by his entire family.

Our dad was our hero. He was a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and grandfather.  He was always there for his family and friends, no questions asked and never asked for anything in return. He was a simple, vain yet modest man that didn’t want a big fuss made over him.

Our dad was born on November 1, 1935 to the late Anna Keir Hall and Harold Staats Hall. His late grandmother, Mary Keir also played a big part in raising him. He was raised in Plainfield, NJ and later in South Plainfield, NJ.  He lived in South Plainfield for 53 years.

He was a graduate of Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools in East Brunswick, NJ. He served in the United States Navy from 1955-1958 during peacetime. He served as a plumber and welder on the ship, DE-667 USS Wiseman. On May 10, 1959, he married our mother, Loretta Handle Hall at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Dunellen.  They were the first couple married in the church and were married for 42 years before her passing.

He became a plumber’s helper and then started his career as a North Plainfield Firefighter in 1960. He served as a paid firefighter for 26 years until his retirement in 1986. He went on to start his own Boat Lift Elevator business for several years.

Our dad was an amazing man who loved the outdoors. You could always find him in his yard gardening and working on projects around the house. He had a special love for flowers and would always plant beautiful tulips and daffodils for our mom to enjoy. He enjoyed meeting his friends every morning at Dunkin Donuts by Spring Lake Park. He could fix anything that was broken and loved helping his children with all their household projects.

He had a special love for animals, especially his grand doggies and his past family dogs. He loved American history and researched his ancestral family tree and was always learning about the history of our family. He was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). His absolute favorite thing to do was go metal detecting for historical artifacts at encampments and battles throughout NJ. He was a member of two metal detecting clubs, Bravo and Deep Search throughout the years. Most recently, he began participating in historical reenactments, especially at the Abraham Staats House in South Bound Brook. Abraham was his grandfather eight generations ago. Numerous artifacts that he found are on display at the Monmouth Battlefield Museum.

Our dad was predeceased by our loving mom, Loretta Handle Hall in 2002 and their infant son, Christopher Robert in 1960.

He is survived by one brother, Allan W. Hall of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by his three children, Steven R. Hall and his wife Margaret of Aberdeen, NJ, Janice L. Biegert and her husband Mark of Wall Township, NJ and Lauren L. Hall of Readington, NJ, two cherished grandsons, Brandon Christopher Biegert and his wife Teresa of Brooklyn, NY and Matthew and his girlfriend Evelyn of Wall Township, NJ. He is also survived by his beloved and cherished friend, Margie Wilson. His presence will be greatly missed by our family and his many, many friends. Rest in Peace, Dad. Till we meet again.
