Obituary of Marie Theresa Haberle

June 22, 1934 – February 25, 2025

Marie Theresa Haberle, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the age of 90, at the Bridgeway Care and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsborough, New Jersey.

Born on June 22, 1934, in Plains, Pennsylvania, Marie was the cherished daughter of Anthony and Lottie Metner. She was raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, before moving to Plainfield, New Jersey, where she spent much of her young life. Eventually, she settled in North Plainfield, where she built a loving home and raised her family, before relocating to Jackson, New Jersey, nearly a decade ago.

Faith was the foundation of Marie’s life. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield, where she found great comfort and community in her spiritual beliefs.

Marie was a hardworking woman with a strong work ethic and a dedication to excellence. She began her career at Bronson Hat Factory in Plainfield, New Jersey, and later became a supervisor at Whitestone Products in Piscataway, New Jersey. Her dedication and leadership left a lasting impact on those she worked with, and she took great pride in her work.

In her younger years, Marie found joy and excitement in roller skating, a passion that led her to win awards. She had a natural grace and enthusiasm on the rink, a reflection of her zest for life. That same joy carried into her daily life as she found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—spending time with her family, watching The Price Is Right, Press Your Luck, and General Hospital, and embracing her love of knitting and crocheting. Every stitch she made carried her warmth and love, as she lovingly created baby blankets for all of her grandchildren.

But above all else, Marie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the comforting presence of a woman whose heart knew no bounds.

Marie was predeceased by her former husband, Jack Haberle, who passed away in 1989, her brother Anthony Metner,  her two sisters, Helen Christiansen and Jean Bellone and her beloved grandson, Scott Dame.

She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her loving children, Judy Williams Deitrick and her husband John, Donna Freile and her husband Kenny, and Denise Dryburgh and her husband Joseph; her adoring grandchildren, Melissa, George, Julie-Marie, Tracey, Billy, Sarah, Amy, Joey, Laura, and James; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Kaylee, Georgie, Bella, Kirstin, Alex, Angel, Lizzie, Billy, Finley, and Michael.

Marie’s kindness, faith, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her honor on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield, New Jersey. She will be laid to rest at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Though Marie is no longer physically with us, her love and legacy remain woven into the fabric of her family—a beautiful testament to a life well-lived.
