Obituary of Nicholas Vincent Furina
Nicholas “Nicky” Furina, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away in his home on February 27, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Bayonne, New Jersey on November 28, 1931. He spent over 30 years working for the ILA as a safetyman and a hiring agent for Ports America. He also owned and operated various restaurants and clubs in the metropolitan area, owned the Elco Marina in Bayonne, and finally retired in Warren, NJ.
Nicky was a Patriot, serving as a corporal in the Korean War and stationed in Trieste, Italy, from 1952 - 1954.
Nicky loved to be surrounded by his friends and family, always looking to go out for “just one drink”. When he wasn’t out, you could always find him in his shop. Nicky was an avid carpenter, making Betty Boops and various other wood pieces.
He was a family man and raised his family the same way. He leaves behind a loving family including his devoted wife of 70 years, Vivian Furina, their son Anthony Furina, daughter Nancy Romano (Nicholas Romano), and daughter Vivian Murowski (Paul Murowski). He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Nicole Furina (Paul A. Lynch), Anthony Furina (Carolyn Furina), Anthony Romano, Melissa Morano (Michael R. Morano), Nicholas Romano (Audrey Romano), Dominic Furina (Katelyn Furina), and Michelle Lupo (Joseph M. Lupo) . He also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Francesco, Michael, Cassidy, Joey, Giada, Giuliana, Amelia, Declan, Lucas, Sofia, and Mason. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony Furina. Nicky often would like to tell everyone “Man, we got a big family!”.
Nicky touched the lives of many families and friends, and he will be dearly missed. He took pride in the relationships he built and the values he instilled in his family. He left us with one piece of advice: “Family stays tight, family first…. Nothing else but the family, stick together always, no exceptions.”
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to Nicky and his life at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069, on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A mass will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s of Stony Hill Church, 225 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
