Obituary of Oscar A. Romero-Figueroa
Oscar A. Romero, age 25, passed away on March 17, 2025, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, surrounded by his loving family. Though his time on this earth was far too short, Oscar left a lasting impact on all who knew him, with his warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, Oscar was a lifelong resident of North Plainfield, where he spent his childhood and early years. He attended North Plainfield High School, where he made many cherished friendships and began to develop his deep passion for video games and sports. Following high school, Oscar continued his education at Raritan Valley Community College before transferring to Rutgers University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
After graduation, Oscar embarked on his professional career, joining SHI, a computer software company, where he worked as a salesperson. He took pride in his work, always striving to build meaningful connections with colleagues and clients alike.
Outside of work, Oscar had a vibrant personality and a wide range of interests that brought him joy. One of his greatest passions was video gaming—he was well known among friends for his skill, enthusiasm, and the camaraderie he shared through gaming. Whether competing in fast-paced online matches or simply enjoying a game with friends, Oscar found true happiness in the world of gaming.
Sports were another major part of his life. He was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan, always cheering them on through victories and defeats. However, his greatest sporting love was Real Madrid—he was a gigantic, devoted fan of the world-renowned soccer team. Watching Real Madrid play brought him immense excitement, and he loved discussing matches, players, and strategies with fellow fans.
Above all, Oscar cherished his family. He had a special bond with his younger cousins, who looked up to him with admiration. Whether playing, joking around, or simply spending time together, Oscar had a way of making every moment memorable. His kindness, patience, and loving nature made him a role model within the family, and he was deeply loved by all who knew him.
Oscar is survived by his devoted mother, Wendy J. Romero, and her husband, Gill Poz, and his beloved grandparents, Oscar and Marina Romero, who played an instrumental role in his life. He is also survived by his dear sister, Allison Romero, as well as his uncles, Cesar Romero, Oscar Romero, and Carlos Romero and his wife, Fanny. In addition, he leaves behind many cousins, extended family members, and a wide circle of friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Oscar’s life will be honored and celebrated with a visitation on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, located at 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
A private interment of Oscar’s cremated remains will take place on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Somerset Hills Memorial Park.
Though Oscar’s passing leaves a profound void, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering love for family and friends will never be forgotten.
