Obituary of Jowanda Evette Stewart
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved love one Jowanda Evette Stewart of Reading, PA., Thursday, March 14, 2025, in PA.
Jowanda was born December 28ᵗʰ, 1960, in Newark, N.J., to James P. Stewart (Deceased) and Geneva Stewart. Her family relocated to Plainfield, NJ, when she was a young girl, and she went on to Graduate from Plainfield High School in 1978.
She began her employment alongside her mother at Ethicon / J&J for many years and then moved into Telecommunications with Cablevision until her Retirement. Jowanda was known by many affectionately nicknames as Evette, Vette, Yetti and Homey-Homey.
Jowanda loved to cook meals that she learned from watching her Mom and Aunt’s cook as a young girl and she would Master each dish with her own personal twist & flavor. Helping others was a natural trait that she did with a huge smile and open heart.
Her favorite pastime things were spending time with the people she loved and enjoy the hours with laughter and reminiscing of the good times they all shared. She LOVED the Lord and was an avid reader and teacher of the Bible to anyone who listened and she would sing God’s praises through his words or Hymns. Although she is no longer physically here with us, she will never, ever leave our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father, James Paul Stewart, and her precious baby, Torrance. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, Geneva Stewart (Mom), Terrance T. Franklin (Son), Yvonne S N’Dri (Sister), and Shawan Y. Briscoe (Niece). There are so many Aunt’s, Uncle’s, Cousin’s, Niece’s, Nephew’s, that she Loved & Admired. We cannot forget the bounty of friends whose lives she has touched on her journey here, especially her Sister / Friend / Homey-Homey for over 40 years of true friendship, Pamela Simmons.
She is resting now with our Father above, as she well deserves after fighting a long, hard battle to the end.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home commencing at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Graceland Memorial Park, 1801 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, NJ.
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect Angel to walk among us, fly free now…..
