Obituary of Heinz Teutsch
March 15, 1975 – April 6, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Heinz Teutsch of Green Brook, New Jersey, on April 6, 2025.
Heinz was born on March 15, 1975, in Nuremberg, Germany, to the late Michael and Renate Teutsch. After graduating from high school, he fulfilled his required military service in the German Air Force. He then attended Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, majoring in electrical engineering. As part of his studies, he completed a prestigious internship at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey—an experience that would change the course of his life.
During his time in New Jersey, Heinz met the love of his life, Debbie, through a mutual friend. He went on to earn his master’s degree in 2001 and later completed his Ph.D. in 2006, specializing in signal processing to improve audio communication. Heinz and Debbie were married in 2006 and built a life together over the next 18 years.
A brilliant engineer and innovator, Heinz began his career as a research scientist at Avaya in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Over the course of his career, he helped develop 11 patents in the field of audio. In 2013, he joined MH Acoustics, in Summit, New Jersey, as a senior engineer, working alongside a team of like-minded engineers who shared his passion for audio innovation. MH Acoustics was more than a workplace—it was a family of friends. Heinz felt truly fortunate to be part of such a remarkable team. His contributions to his field earned him the prestigious Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award in 2020. He remained at MH Acoustics until his passing.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Heinz was a man of great heart and dedication to his family. He was a devoted husband to Debbie and a loving, proud father to their three sons—Christopher, Nicholas, and Jonathan. Heinz was deeply involved in their lives, serving as a Cub Scout leader for Troop 129 for five years and being an ever-present, supportive figure in their activities.
Heinz loved the outdoors and took pride in maintaining his lawn and garden. An avid cyclist, he completed numerous bike tours across Europe, including the Swiss Alps, and continued his passion for cycling after moving to the United States. He especially enjoyed riding through scenic parts of Somerset County and taking neighborhood bike rides with his family.
He also had a great love for music and played the trumpet with the Nuremberg City Orchestra. In his spare time, he enjoyed table tennis and cherished time spent with his loved ones.
Heinz will be remembered for his integrity, gentle spirit, and kind heart. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife Debbie; his sons Christopher, Nicholas, and Jonathan; his mother Renate; his brother Uwe, sister-in-law Iris, and their daughter Emily; his mother-in-law Elena Gulyas; his sister-in-law Dana Gulyas and her daughter Elena; his brother-in-law Edward Gulyas, his wife Lisa, and their daughters Gina and Frankie; his brother-in-law Mark, his wife Caterina, and their children Marco and Luciana; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins in Germany.
