It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Harry Sorensen, a devoted husband, cherished father, and beloved grandfather. Bill peacefully departed this life on April 11, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on July 18, 1935, in Jersey City, NJ. Bill was the beloved son of Harry and Isabel Sorensen. He spent his formative years in Cranford, New Jersey, where he discovered his passion for sports, excelling as a standout defenseman on Cranford High School’s hockey team and as a talented pitcher on the baseball team. His early years were marked by his love for the Cub Scouts and a spirit of camaraderie that endeared him to all who knew him.
In 1964, Bill and his family settled in Warren, New Jersey, where he became a pillar of the community. A devout family man, Bill’s unwavering commitment to those he loved was the cornerstone of his life. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and New York Rangers, and he took great joy in sharing his passion for sports with family and friends.
Beyond his love for sports, Bill found solace and joy in the simpler pleasures of life. He could often be found tending to his cherished property, feeding the birds that brought life to his yard, or making countless trips to Berkeley and Warrenville Hardware Stores to fuel his endless home improvement projects. His humor, curiosity, and knack for finding joy in the everyday will remain etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Lita Sorensen; his devoted children, Karen Sorensen-Armstrong, Christian, and Robert Sorensen; Son-in-law, Ronald Armstrong, his treasured grandchildren, Bradford, his wife, Lindsay, Denice Harwick, Erika Lillian and Lee Mary Sorensen; as well as his great-grandchildren, Emma James and Tommy Harwick. His family was his greatest pride, and their love for him is immeasurable.
Bill served his country with honor and dedication as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. His unwavering commitment to duty and his steadfast courage will forever be remembered.
A graveside chapel service in celebration of Bill’s life will be held on April 16, 2025, at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ. Entombment will follow after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his honor to the American Heart Association.
