Amos Green

Obituary of Amos Leon Green

Mr. Amos Leon Green peacefully passed away on April 14, 2025, in Somerset, NJ.  He was 69 years old.  Born in Macon, Georgia to the late Florine Tyler and the late Costello Green.  Amos resided in Basking Ridge, NJ, for a number of years.

Amos was the second oldest of four siblings, two brothers and two sisters.

He graduated from Plainfield High School in 1973.  After graduating from high school, Amos proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his term of Active obligated service, which he ended with a Character of Honorable discharge.  Shortly after serving in the United States Air Force, he became a Registered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Lyons VA Medical Center in Lyons, NJ, dedicating his career to caring for veterans.

Amos was a true sports fan; he enjoyed all sports, including baseball, where he once appeared in the local hometown newspaper (that was proudly displayed in his childhood home of Plainfield, NJ).  He was an avid NY Giants NFL fan, often telling stories of the games that he attended.  Before his illness restricted him from doing things that he loved, Amos found great joy in spending time with his family, especially his daughter and grandchildren; the holidays were his favorite (always requesting extra mac n cheese to take home with him), and traveling.

He leaves to cherish in his memory his daughter - Tanya A. Black (Carzell Black, Jr.); son - Amos Leon Moore, brother to Larry Hagan (Pamela Hagan); Elaine Green; Marven Green; (cousin) Charlie Grier; and Ramonia McNeil (Michael McNeil); four grandchildren Tayannah Clark; Tiher Black; T’Naya Black; Leonnia Moore and one great-granddaughter Lailoni Brown and a host of family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ 07069. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
