Obituary of John Beirne
May 8, 1940 - May 3, 2025
We regretfully announce the passing of John Beirne on Saturday, May 3rd. Mr. Beirne attended Irvington Vocational High School and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from May 1959 to May 1961. Upon returning from service, he worked for the city of Newark as an operating engineer from 1962 until 2006, when he retired from the Newark Public Library. He was a devoted and loving family member to his parents; brother, Jim Beirne; his sister, the late Noreen Nugent; and all his nieces and nephews.
Mr. Beirne was happiest fishing and gardening, and he shared those hobbies with the people he loved. He spent hours tending to his gardens and each season shared his tomatoes with family and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing in Belmar with his father when he was young, and continued to fish with friends and family for his entire life. He will be remembered most for his utmost kindness and generosity. He never said a bad word about anyone and had a joyful, optimistic outlook on life. His presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his brother, James J. Beirne, and his loving nieces and nephews.
