Obituary of Mary Sue Hofschneider
December 14, 1944 – May 26, 2025
Mary Susan Hofschneider passed away peacefully at her home in Clark on May 26, 2025. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on December 14, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Race Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Race. Mary grew up in Roselle Park before settling in Clark, where she had lived for the past 30 years.
Mary earned a master’s degree in accounting from St. John’s University in Staten Island. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with American Airlines, as a gate agent. Her work in the airline industry was more than just a job—it was the foundation of a lifelong passion for travel and aviation.
She shared that love of flight with her late husband, Kurt Hofschneider, a pilot. Together, they traveled the globe and created countless memories in the sky and across the world. Mary even obtained her pilot’s license and proudly flew alongside Kurt, deepening their bond through their shared adventures. Over her lifetime, she filled more than twenty passports and never lost her enthusiasm for discovering new places.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Kurt in 2017. She is survived by her brother, Robert “Bob” Race and his wife Jean; her and friend, Tony; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes and love of simplicity, cremation services were held privately.
