Frank Morris

Obituary of Frank Oscar Morris

Frank Oscar Morris was born on November 22, 1928, in the Parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, to Rhoda Victoria Lindsey and was adopted by our late father, Ruben Ewen. At an early age, Frank’s first job was working as a Handy Man with Mr. Chambers on properties in St. Thomas.

In 1949, Frank lived with and was closely attached to the Moodie family for approximately 18 years. The Moodie family was instrumental in helping Frank get employed by Esso Standard Oil for some time.

With his ambition and entrepreneurial spirit, Frank established a grocery shop at 5A Price Lane in Kingston, Jamaica. While operating the grocery shop, he was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to migrate to the USA and work on a farm worker visa.

Frank reestablished his grocery shop in Seven Miles Bull Bay when he returned to Jamaica three months later. He also operated a local cinema, bar, and club. He was engaged in jury duties at the Supreme Court during that time. In 1964, when his mother was discharged from the Princess Margaret Hospital, Frank took his mother, Rhoda, to live with him to care for her after she suffered a stroke. Due to the decline in the business environment in Jamaica at the time, Frank decided to close his businesses.

After closing his businesses, he lived in Kingston with his daughter, Jennifer, and his two grandchildren, Steve and Stephanie. Between 1967 and 1969, he transitioned to Caribbean Protective Services as a Security Supervisor, then Hannah Town Bakery, popularly known as HTB.

He then returned to the USA in 1972, after his mother’s death on December 15, 1971, where he spent the rest of his life. He worked as a Supervisor in Fairfield, New Jersey, at an Airplane Parts Manufacturing company for approximately 40 years, from which he retired.

Frank is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grand-children, and his five living children, Carlton, Yvonne (aka Jennifer), Maria (aka Verna), Norma, and Robert (aka Ted). Two of Frank’s children are deceased, Brenton (aka Duke) and Grace. Frank is also survived by seven living brothers and sisters: Altimond, Pearl, Alton, Ivan, Enid, Zenda, Gwen, and Roy. Frank’s eighth sibling, Hernel, is deceased.
