Obituary of Eleonora Quaglia

Eleonora Quaglia

October 8, 1935 – July 8, 2025

Eleonora Quaglia, 89, of Warren, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Hackensack University Medical Center at Mountainside in Glen Ridge, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on October 8, 1935, in Vallata, Italy, Eleonora was the daughter of the late Nunzinte and Genoeffa Gallo. In 1955, at the age of 20, she immigrated to the United States, where her family established roots and began a new life in America. She initially settled in Newark, New Jersey, and later Maplewood, before moving to Warren, where she made her home for the past 41 years.

A devoted and tireless worker, Eleonora spent most of her life as a seamstress. She was a proud member of both the International Ladies’ Garment Union and the men’s garment union, where she helped craft suits for both women and men. Later in her career, she brought her skill and dedication to companies like Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, and Epstein’s, where she specialized in alterations. Eleonora was always eager to work, and when seamstress jobs were scarce, she took on other roles without hesitation, including waitressing at the King George Inn and Snuffy’s. She also worked in local supermarkets such as A&P. Her family will always remember her unwavering work ethic and how deeply she took pride in a job well done.

Eleonora was a woman of deep Catholic faith. She would regularly attended Mass with her daughter for many years at Our Lady of The Mount RC Church in Warren. Though health challenges in later life made it harder for her to attend services in person, her spiritual devotion remained strong.

In addition to her work and faith, Eleonora had many joys in life. She loved cooking and sewing, and she took great pleasure in gardening. But above all, she cherished time spent with her family—especially her three beloved grandsons, whom she helped raise and loved with all her heart.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Catherine Farro, and her husband Andrew; her cherished grandchildren, Joseph Farro, Carmen Farro, and Mark Farro and his wife Daria. She also leaves behind her loving siblings: Vincenza Pali, Franceschina Stango, Emilio Gallo, and Massimina "Nina" Forgione.

Eleonora was predeceased by her beloved husband, Osvaldo Quaglia, and by her siblings Rose Nigro, Michelina Argo, and Francesco Gallo.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Roman Catholic Church, located at 225 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eleanora’s loving memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization dear to her heart.
