Allen Joseph Lamonda

Allen Joseph Lamonda, a proud U.S. Navy veteran and retired South Plainfield Police Officer, passed away on July 13, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, New Jersey.

Born in Potsdam, New York, Allen grew up in the Lake Champlain region of upstate New York before moving to Martinsville, New Jersey as a teenager. He later settled in South Plainfield, where he raised his family and remained a devoted member of the community for many years.

Allen began his career with the South Plainfield Police Department in 1984 and served with distinction until his retirement in 2010. During his tenure, he was instrumental in establishing the Junior Police Academy and was best known for leading the D.A.R.E. program along with his partner and dear friend Dave Franchak, where his warm presence and dedication made a lasting impression on generations of local children. Even years after his retirement, former students and community members continued to share heartfelt stories of the positive impact Allen had on their lives.

Before his career in law enforcement, Allen served honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, a reflection of his deep-rooted commitment to service and helping others. Whether in uniform or out, Allen was always someone people could count on—he simply loved lending a hand wherever it was needed.

In his spare time, Allen enjoyed tinkering around the house, taking on home improvement projects, and for a brief period, riding his motorcycle. Above all, his greatest joy came from caring for his family and spending time with those he loved.

Allen was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sherrill Lamonda, in 2017. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Stacy Lamonda; his sister, Cecily Ismaeil, and her husband, Mahmoud; along with extended family and friends who will deeply miss his kind spirit and unwavering dedication to others.

Allen was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, where he was reunited with Sherrill, the love of his life.
