With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and friend, Pedro Zapata.
Pedro Antonio Zapata was born on September 28, 1938, in Panama. He died on July 22nd, 2025, in the United States.
Pedro was predeceased by his parents: Mom Susana Madelana Cherevin, Dad Evaristo Zapata, and his Son, Rommel Evertsz
Pedro’s aunt, affectionately known as “Tia,” sponsored him to move to New York to explore better job opportunities. Pedro subsequently had a successful career as an alcohol counselor with 35 years of service at Cabrini Medical Center in New York.
He married the love of his life, “Jeanie”. They were happily married for over 40 years in Plainfield, New Jersey. In his retirement, he enjoyed his favorite pastime of watching his beloved Mets Baseball team.
Pedro left behind his wife, Jean Zapata, Sister, Ana Olivia, Brother, George Zapata, Daughter Elena Zapata, Son, Romuald Evertsz, Daughter, Keisha Williams, Granddaughter, Dasia Evertsz, Granddaughter, Jade Evertsz, Grandson, Treyvon Williams, Adopted-Son, William “Craig” Scott, Adopted-Granddaughter, Knoelle Scott, and other family members and close friends.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at his viewing on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard and Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1235 George Street, Plainfield, NJ 07062. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, NJ.
