Arthur L. Cox, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully after a life marked by dedication to family, service, and curiosity.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Iowa, Arthur went on to live in Westfield, NJ; Levittown, NJ; Weston, MA; and, for the past 53 years, Basking Ridge, NJ. He graduated from Westfield High School and continued his education at Lafayette College, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering with the Class of 1954. Following in the family tradition of his father, Stephen G. Cox (Class of 1935), he was also a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
In December of 1955, Arthur enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country with distinction and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant on September 30, 1962.
Arthur began his career at RCA in Moorestown, NJ, as an Electrical Engineer before moving to Massachusetts to work for Microwave Associates in a Marketing and Sales capacity. He later joined M/A-COM in Somerset, NJ, where his sales expertise and leadership took him all over the world. His work afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively, and he and his beloved wife, Patricia, shared adventures in Great Britain, France, Germany, Japan, and many other destinations—Japan being a particularly memorable experience.
Outside of his professional life, Arthur was a passionate New York Rangers hockey fan, and a dedicated collector of stamps, coins, and diecast cars. He was also an active member of the National Audubon Society, reflecting his love of nature and wildlife.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Cox; his three children, Jill (Jim) Havrilla, Stephen (Beth) Cox, and Bill (Linda) Cox; and his ten grandchildren, Arthur Havrilla, Peter Havrilla, Andrew Havrilla, Amanda Cox, Katie Cox, Sarah Cox, Will Cox, Stephen Cox, Christopher Cox, and Michael Cox. He is also survived by his sister, Suzanne Bouwers.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, August 24, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ, with military honors at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Audubon Society.
Arthur will be remembered for his intellect, his dedication to his craft, and most of all, his unwavering love for his family.
