Joseph G. Gatti, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at his home in Chadwick Island, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 9, 1954, to Antonio and Stella Gatti in Plainfield, New Jersey, Joe was a lifelong New Jersey resident. He grew up in Plainfield and resided in Watchung from 1983 until 2021, before settling in Chadwick Island, where he spent the past four years enjoying life at the shore.
Joe graduated from Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison, New Jersey, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Economicsfrom Columbia University in New York City. He began his professional career at Merrill Lynch and later continued as a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley in Morristown, where he dedicated his career to guiding clients with integrity and care, embarking on his 48th year in the profession.
Faith, family, and friends were the foundation of Joe’s life. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Mary’s Stony Hill and loved attending daily Mass. He was a devoted sports fan who cheered passionately for the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Joe also enjoyed traveling the world with both family and friends. Among his many adventures, his trip to Israel was one of his most treasured experiences.
Above all else, Joe’s greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Baba.”
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Gatti; his three children, Joga Gatti, Mike Gatti, and Emily Giaimo and her husband Joe; his cherished grandchildren, Siena and JoJo; his brother, Tony Gatti; his sister, Tammy Gatti; and his brother-in-law, Jim Crowley.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life at a visitation on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Church, [LIVESTREAM LINK] 225 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ, followed by an interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org), honoring Joe’s generous spirit and love of country.
