Dr. Raymond Lanza, 73, of Green Brook, New Jersey, and Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Muriedas, Spain, Ray came to the United States as an infant, taking his very first steps on American soil when he arrived at just 14 months old. He was raised in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, later residing in his home office in Elizabeth before settling in Green Brook, where he made his home for the past 33 years. Florida became a second home that grew into something even greater: beginning with a family timeshare on Sanibel Island in 1984, followed by a beloved Sanibel home in 2008, and most recently a residence in Fort Myers in 2024, which became the place where he and his family created their newest and happiest memories together.
Ray was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School and went on to earn his undergraduate degree at the historic Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He pursued his medical training at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Iowa, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (DO). He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, where he distinguished himself as Chief Resident. It was also at Overlook that he met the love of his life, June, who was working there, beginning a partnership in both life and love that would last for 42 years.
Dedicated to his patients and profession, Dr. Lanza opened a home office in Elizabeth, which he operated for 36 years, and which became the foundation of his medical career. He also served as Medical Director at Runnells Hospital in Berkeley Heights and at McAuley Hall Health Care Facility in Watchung. Most recently, he established a concierge medicine practice in Warren, where he continued his lifelong calling to care for others. Known for his tireless devotion, he spent countless hours helping friends, family, and patients—always eager to listen, research, and provide guidance with a generous spirit and a genuine love for helping people.
While medicine was his vocation and passion, his greatest joy was his family. He cherished time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, whose lives were immeasurably enriched by his wisdom, kindness, and presence.
Dr. Lanza is survived by his beloved wife, June Lanza; his three children, Alexander Lanza, Tracie Lantz and her husband Tyler, and Natalie Glover and her husband Heath; three adored grandchildren, Lila, Jessie, and Harrison; and his sister, Araceli “Sallie” Perez, and her husband Angel.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A second visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by an 11:00 AM Celebration of Life at the funeral home. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed at [LIVESTREAM]. Cremation services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital & the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
