Vincent J. Talmo
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend
Vincent J. Talmo, 89, of Bridgewater, formerly of North Plainfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Complete Care at Green Knoll in Bridgewater.
Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Vincent graduated from West Side High School and went on to continue his education at Fairleigh Dickinson University. After college, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. During his service, he worked as both a tank crew member and as an artist for the military newspaper, using his creativity to lift the spirits of his fellow soldiers.
Following his honorable discharge, Vincent began a long and successful career as a manager with Hudson Tool and Die in Newark. He later transitioned into real estate, working with Delucia Realty in North Plainfield as a commercial broker. Eventually, he returned to his lifelong passion for craftsmanship, establishing himself as a master carpenter and cabinet maker. His skill and dedication can be seen in projects throughout the area, including extensive work inside the Watchung Courthouse.
A resident of North Plainfield for 51 years, Vincent was deeply rooted in his community. He was a former member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield and gave of his time as a Little League coach. A man of many interests, he was an avid sports fan who cheered faithfully for the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He enjoyed gardening, cherished time spent by the shore in Long Branch, and found peace fishing in the waters of the Atlantic Highlands. Throughout his life, he also held a special affection for animals, lovingly caring for many cats, dogs, and even birds.
Vincent was predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene Talmo, who passed away in 2017, as well as by his brother, Nicholas Talmo, and his sister, Marion Medina.
He is survived by his son, Vincent A. Talmo and his loving companion, Susan Tarbous; his daughter, Cheryl Whalen; his grandchildren, Melissa Whalen and Joe Whalen with his wife, Allison; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Penelope.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Cemetery, 1295 Plainfield Avenue, Watchung, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Vincent’s honor to the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
