Mario Tony Martinez

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband and father, Tony Martinez, on September 9, 2025. He was surrounded by his family, leaving behind many fond memories, filled with moments of joy and love.

Tony was born on May 6, 1955, in San Salvador, El Salvador. At the age of 17, he made the life-changing decision to move to Plainfield, New Jersey. Soon after arriving, he met the love of his life, Ivonne, and together they shared over 50 years of devotion. Married for 46 years, their home in Plainfield became the heart of family gatherings, laughter, and the many lessons Tony imparted to his children and grandchildren.

Tony was the embodiment of hard work and perseverance. He began his career at US Gypsum and Valspar, and later worked as a truck driver for Kimber Petroleum in Linden, New Jersey. After many dedicated years, he retired, though his drive and energy never truly slowed.

Family and friends knew Tony as a man of many passions and interests. He took great pride in maintaining his home and cars in pristine condition. During his free time, he could often be found repairing something, earning himself the nickname of “Mr. Fix It.” Whether he was working on a task in the garage or tinkering around with his tools, Tony left things in a flawless manner in which he could be proud of.

Anyone who crossed paths with Tony, met a man who loved conversation and storytelling. From recounting the histories of his favorite music to sharing stories of his childhood, Tony reveled in the connections he made and the friendships he built. He especially loved to impart wisdom to his family, offering guidance to his children and grandchildren. Aside from sharing a perceptive word, Tony was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever he could. Above all else, he will be remembered for his values, sense of humor, and insightful nature.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Ivonne Martinez; his children, Antonio Martinez, Kenneth Martinez, and Kathy Martinez; his daughters-in-law, Stayce Martinez and Yvette Boodhram; his cherished grandchildren, Gianna and Macy; and his brother, Carlos Martinez.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, New Jersey. A funeral talk will take place at 4:00 p.m. Cremation services will follow privately.

Tony’s family takes comfort in knowing his legacy of love, strength, and values will live on in future generations. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
