Harold F.W. Meyer
December 15, 1926 – September 20, 2025
Harold F.W. Meyer, 98, of Basking Ridge, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hamburg, Germany on December 15, 1926, Harold was the son of the late Robert and Marie Louise Meyer. At the age of one, he came to the United States with his family and grew up in Jersey City. After marrying his beloved wife, Margaret Irene, Harold settled in Kenilworth, where together they raised their family. The couple later lived in Roselle Park.
Harold proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, spending his service stationed in the Philippines. Following his military service, he embarked on a long and dedicated career. He began with Breyers Ice Cream, where he worked for 25 years, and later became a warehouse manager for Block Drug Company in Jersey City. He retired in 2000 after an impressive 56-year career.
Known for his strong work ethic and natural ability to repair anything, Harold had a gift for fixing anything around the home. He also loved spending time outdoors tending to his garden, whether growing vegetables in the spring or taking pride in a well-kept lawn.
Harold was predeceased by his cherished wife of many years, Margaret Irene, in 2023; his grandson, Justin; and his brothers, Ralph and Robert “Bobby” Meyer. He is survived by his devoted children, Dennis Meyer and his wife Diane, and Elizabeth Carpenter and her husband Bill. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Carissa Meyer, Ryan Carpenter and his wife Lauren, and Kevin Carpenter and his wife Jamie; as well as his five great-grandchildren, Cadence, Wesley, Sydney, Ethan, and Owen.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. Interment will be held privately, where Harold will be laid to rest beside his wife, Margaret.
