John recruited me to Tulane as dean of the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. It proved to be the start of my administrative career. I had previously worked with John on National Institutes of Health projects and admired him greatly. My years with John and Judie at Tulane were special and amongst the happiest of my life. John was a wonderful Chancellor for the Health Sciences at Tulane. He espoused academic excellence, was a champion for all the right causes and people, and he was a leader of great integrity. More than that, he was a superb mentor for me and I am indebted to him for his support, encouragement and friendship. I learned so much from him and treasure my memories of lovely times that Shelagh and I spent with John and Judie. John, you made a big difference in my life and you did the same for so many others. Thank you for being such a wonderful role model and lovely human being. Shelagh and I have you, Judie and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

John C. LaRosa
Dr. John C Laosa MD, was a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Musician, Leader, President, Dean, Physician, Researcher, Teacher, Swimmer, Friend, Mentor and so much more. Most of all he was a Man who Loved his Family and his profession. He was a Serious Man; a term he often used to describe others. He led Downstate Medical University, with passion, to may noteworthy accomplishments and successes. I had the privilege of working for him for over 13 years and learned so much from him that he gave me freely. He also allowed me to speak freely and give my opinion or recommendation.
He was a Mench and Righteous Man and a Man of integrity. I miss him.
May His Memory Be for a Blessing and May He Rest In Peace
May GOD Comfort Judie, Chris and Jennifer and the entire LaRosa Family at this most difficult of times.

Dear Judie and family,
Dr. LaRosa was one of those bosses you will never forget. He had a welcomeness about him, that spoke volumes, and working for him was a sincere pleasure. He led by example and was a class act with great taste in music. A strong but empathetic leader who was passionate about Downstate and its potential. His door was open; his advice was sound and his way with people unmatched. I learned a lot from his management style.
My family has fond memories of you both and that is the best part of this.
He will be missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
