Ruth Ogens

October 21, 1923 – November 16, 2025

Ruth Ogens, 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Stein Assisted Living Center in Somerset, New Jersey, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 21, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York, Ruth was raised in Brooklyn and always held a deep affection for the place where her life began. After meeting the love of her life, Henry Ogens, the two married and settled in Plainfield, New Jersey. It was there that Ruth created a warm and welcoming home for her family and resided for more than fifty years. She later moved to Somerset, where she continued to enjoy life.

Ruth was a former member of Temple Beth El in Plainfield and held a longstanding appreciation for the Jewish faith. She had a tremendous love for travel and believed deeply in the value of experiencing other cultures. Among her many journeys, her trips to Israel were especially meaningful to her, enriching her spiritually and personally.

Staying active was an essential part of Ruth’s life. She loved taking walks outdoors and genuinely embraced movement and independence. Even into her later years, she remained lively, engaged, and spirited. Above all, Ruth cherished time spent with her family. She adored gatherings filled with conversation, laughter, and shared meals, and she especially enjoyed going out to dinner with the people she loved. Visits from her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews brought her tremendous joy, and her presence made every family gathering brighter.

Ruth is survived by her devoted daughter, Bernetta Mintz, and her husband, Howard; her cherished grandsons, Jason and his wife Jacqueline, and Brian and his wife Sarah; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Allyson, Aaron, and Mila. Her family will forever remember her warmth, strength, and the vibrant way she embraced life.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, New Jersey. Interment will follow at the Hebrew Cemetery of Samptown, located on New Market Avenue in South Plainfield, New Jersey.

Ruth will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
