Shaoying Liu, 91, passed away on November 26, 2025, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. She was born on November 16, 1934, in Guangzhou, China, where she was raised and spent the majority of her life before settling in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Shaoying received her bachelor’s degree and devoted her professional life to education. She served as a middle school teacher and last taught at Guangzhou Municipal 12th Middle School, where she was known for her dedication to her students and her commitment to learning.
Outside of her work, Shaoying enjoyed a simple and fulfilling life. She loved cooking, took pleasure in shopping, and spent many relaxing hours watching her favorite television shows.
She was widowed at the time of her passing and was predeceased by her husband, Qing-Liang Cui. Shaoying was the cherished mother of her son, Jieming Cui, and mother-in-law to Yikui Cai. She was also the proud grandmother of William Yufeng Cui and Karen Yujie Cui, who brought great joy to her later years. She is survived by her sister, Miao-Ying Liu, and was predeceased by her siblings Shao-Tu Liu and Li-Ying Liu.
Shaoying was the daughter of Zhentao Liu and Yingying Xu, who instilled in her the values of family, perseverance, and education that she carried throughout her life.
Cremation will take place, with arrangements entrusted to Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung, New Jersey.
