Stefan Myrush Obituary

Stefan “Steve” Myrush, 97 passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025 at his home in Warren, NJ, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 29, 1927 in Zvenyhorod, Ukraine.

Around 1942, during WWII, his mother was concerned for his safety, so she placed him on a train, headed for Germany, when he was almost 15 years old. A farming family welcomed him, where he worked and lived for many years into adulthood. Always dreaming for something more, he was welcomed to the United States of America, via ship, when he was in his twenties.

After being drafted into the U.S. Army he was stationed in Germany close to where he lived as a teenager. He was an asset as a soldier, since he could speak three languages. After his service was completed, he returned to the United States.

He met Ursula, who was originally from Germany in NYC. After they were married, they settled in Cranford, NJ and started raising their children, Nadja and Mark. They developed many lifelong friendships with other families from Germany and spent many holidays, and family celebrations with them.

Always fascinated with heavy machinery, bulldozers and welding he started his own business with a partner first, in Kenilworth, and then solo in South Plainfield, NJ. In 1974, he and his family moved to Edison, NJ so that he could be closer to his business, Durable Welding, and his garden, which he cherished.

He was known for the constant care and attention to his garden, that he tended to, until recently, as well as keeping his daughter’s family’s wood pile well stocked. He and his wife built the home of their dreams in 1995 in Warren, NJ.

Over the years he enjoyed travelling multiple times with his family to Germany and Ukraine, visiting with his mother, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. In 1995, his first grandson was born, Morgan and Patrick to follow in 1999. He joyfully attended Morgan and Grace’s wedding this past May 17, 2025.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife Ursula (née Fischer), his daughter Nadja (her husband Barry) and son Mark. His grandsons, Morgan (wife Grace) and Patrick, and his sister, Luba. He was predeceased by his parents Ivan and Katarina and brother Slawko.

In lieu of flowers, planting a beautiful tree, would have been something that would have made him smile.

A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
