June Margaret LaCanna Obituary

Obituary for June Margaret LaCanna

June Margaret LaCanna passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Avalon Assisted Living at Hillsborough, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 26, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Peter and Lena Garcia, June spent her early years in the vibrant city where her strong family roots were formed. After marrying the love of her life, Ralph, she relocated to Plainfield, New Jersey, before settling in Watchung in 1964. It was in Watchung that June and Ralph raised their family, built lifelong friendships, and became valued members of their community. In 2020, they moved to  Avalon Assisted Living in Hillsborough, where June remained until her passing.

June was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Stony Hill Roman Catholic Church in Watchung, and she and her husband were deeply involved in the Watchung community through their longstanding dedication to the Watchung Volunteer Fire Department. June was a proud member of the Watchung Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Department, supporting the volunteer company for many years alongside her husband, whose service to the fire company was also a meaningful part of their family life.

Above all else, June’s life was centered around her family. A devoted homemaker, she dedicated her time, energy, and heart to raising her four sons and supporting her husband. Her greatest joy came from caring for her family, and although she lived a simple and humble life, the love she poured into her home created a foundation of warmth and strength that her children and grandchildren will carry with them forever. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph J. LaCanna Sr., who passed away in 2021 after 62 years of marriage, as well as by her siblings Dorothy Grimes, Rosemary Zeller, Hilda Arceneaux, and Peter LaCanna.

June is survived by her four loving sons: Ralph J. LaCanna Jr. and his wife Michelle; Randal LaCanna and his wife Heather; Ronald LaCanna and his wife Mindee; and Robert LaCanna and his wife Annette. She also leaves behind her seven beloved grandchildren: Ryan and his wife Kelly, Casey, Kyle, Zachary, Emily, Danielle, and Nicholas. Each of them carries a piece of her gentle spirit and the memory of the deep love she gave so freely.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 8, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, New Jersey. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 9, at 11:00 AM. June will be laid to rest at her family cemetery, St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery No. 3 in New Orleans, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in June’s memory to the Watchung Volunteer Fire Department, 57 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069.

June Margaret LaCanna will be remembered for her quiet strength, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the deep love that defined her life. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
