Aristide Charles ‘Chuck’ DeTorres Jr, age 69, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, service, and deep community roots.
Chuck was born on September 17, 1956, in the Bronx, New York, to the late Aristide and Rosaria DeTorres. He spent a brief time living in Edison, New Jersey, before his family settled in Warren, where Chuck would reside for most of his life and become a well-known and respected member of the community.
He graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School in 1974 and remained closely connected to the area throughout his adult life. Shortly after graduating high school, Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for four years. During his service, stationed at an Air Force base in Wyoming, Chuck discovered his aptitude for plumbing and trained as a plumbing specialist—skills that would later define his professional life.
After his honorable discharge, Chuck continued working in the plumbing trade, initially under the supervision of a licensed plumber in Basking Ridge. After earning his own licensure, he founded King George Plumbing and Heating in 1983, which he grew into a highly successful and widely recognized business throughout Central New Jersey. His company’s logo became a familiar sight on service trucks across the region as both the business and the Township of Warren grew. Known for his tireless work ethic, Chuck poured himself into his trade and built a reputation for reliability, craftsmanship, and dedication.
Even in his downtime, Chuck rarely slowed down. A self-described workaholic, one of his favorite pastimes was flipping houses during slower periods in the plumbing industry. Using his own expertise and working alongside friends in the trades, he would purchase homes in need of repair, restore them, and sell them—often with great success.
Chuck was also deeply committed to giving back to the community. Through King George Plumbing and Heating, he supported numerous local events and programs, most notably the local Little League, where his company was a consistent and generous supporter of youth teams.
When he did find time to relax, Chuck enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas, savoring moments of leisure whenever his demanding schedule allowed.
Chuck was predeceased by his beloved son Aristide John DeTorres in July 2025, as well as by his parents, his brother Michael DeTorres, and his sister Deborah Phillips.
He is survived by his loving son, Andrew DeTorres, Andrew’s wife, Jaimye, and their two daughters, Logan and Avery, who were a great source of pride and joy in his life. He is also survived by his siblings Karen DeTorres and her partner, Guthrie Packard, Bruce DeTorres and his wife Mary, Rosanne DeTorres, Richard DeTorres and his wife Kimberly, and his sister-in-law, Leanne DeTorres, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, New Jersey
