Maria De Jesus Trujillo, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Maria was born on January 15, 1935 in Ojos de Agua, El Salvador, to Francisco Vides and Antonia Núñez. She was raised with strong values of hard work, faith, and devotion to family—lessons she carried with her throughout her life. As a child, she helped support her family by working on a local farm, an experience that shaped her lifelong work ethic and resilience. She later became a skilled seamstress, a talent she took great pride in.

In 1978, Maria and her family made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States, beginning a new chapter built on determination and hope. They first settled in Glendale and Los Angeles California, where they lived for several years before eventually making their way to New Jersey. After a short time in North Plainfield and Middlesex, Maria made Dunellen her home, where she put down roots and raised her family.

Maria was a dedicated and hardworking woman throughout her life. She retired in 2019 from ShopRite in Bound Brook, New Jersey, where she worked in maintenance services and was a proud member of the UFCW International Union, Local 1262. Over the years, she also held positions at Metuchen Country Club in Edison, where she worked alongside her husband; Injectron in Plainfield, New Jersey; Chef Mark (affiliated with Pathmark); and provided cleaning services for Beneficial in Peapack–Gladstone. No matter the role, Maria took pride in her work and in providing for her family.

Those who knew Maria remember her not only for her strength, but also for her sense of humor. She was quick with a laugh and had a special way of bringing joy to those around her. She especially enjoyed visiting casinos and playing the slot machines, delighting in the sound of coins dropping during a jackpot. Her love of travel took her to many places she enjoyed, including Las Vegas, where one of her daughters lived, as well as Tennessee, New York, Atlantic City, Tunica, and back home to El Salvador—a place that always remained close to her heart.

Maria was also a woman who took pride in caring for herself. She was naturally beautiful and attentive to her health, thoughtful about what she ate, and later in life made intentional changes to her diet to support her well-being. Her care for herself reflected the care she extended to others—she was generous, loving, and always willing to give of herself to those she loved.

A devout Catholic, Maria’s faith was central to her life. Religion was deeply important to her, and she attended church as often as she was able, finding comfort, guidance, and strength in her beliefs.

Above all else, Maria was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother who worked tirelessly to ensure her children were raised with strong values, kindness, and responsibility. Her life was a testament to sacrifice, perseverance, and unconditional love.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Silverio Trujillo; her son, Henry Trujillo; her brother, Nicholas Dionicio Vides; and her sister, Celsa Vides Lopez.

Maria is survived by her five cherished children: Roberto Trujillo and his wife, Eva Calles; Maribel Flores and her husband, Josue Noe Flores; Tony Trujillo and his wife, Tina Trujillo; Myrna Trujillo and her significant other, Byron Koltinick; and Lorenza Beckner and her husband, Chris Beckner. She is also survived by her loving sister, Lena Vides.

She was the proud grandmother of Anthony Trujillo, Ruth Trujillo-Pertew, Elvia R. Trujillo, Alexander Trujillo, Robert Trujillo, Austin Trujillo, Annaliese Trujillo, Rocio Menjivar, Alicia Maria Trujillo, and David Trujillo, and the devoted great-grandmother of Tarek Pertew, Theo Pertew, Zoey Raquel Uibarri, and Amaia Rae Uibarri.

Maria De Jesus Trujillo lived a life defined by hard work, faith, laughter, and love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the generations she helped shape, the sacrifices she made, and the example she set. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

María nació el 15 de Enero 1935 en Ojos de Agua, El Salvador, hija de Francisco Vides y Antonia Núñez. Fue criada con fuertes valores de trabajo, fe y dedicación a la familia, principios que la acompañaron durante toda su vida. Desde niña ayudó a sostener a su familia trabajando en una finca local, experiencia que forjó su ética de trabajo y resiliencia. Más adelante se convirtió en una hábil costurera, un talento del que se sentía muy orgullosa.

En 1978, María y su familia tomaron la valiente decisión de emigrar a los Estados Unidos, comenzando un nuevo capítulo de vida basado en la determinación y la esperanza. Primero se establecieron en Glendale y Los Angeles, California posteriormente se trasladaron a Nueva Jersey. Tras un breve tiempo en North Plainfield y Middlesex, María hizo de Dunellen su hogar, donde echó raíces y crió a su familia.

María fue una mujer trabajadora y dedicada durante toda su vida. Se jubiló en 2019 de ShopRite en Bound Brook, Nueva Jersey, donde trabajó en servicios de mantenimiento y fue orgullosa miembro del sindicato UFCW International Union, Local 1262. Disfrutaba especialmente visitar casinos y jugar en las máquinas tragamonedas, gozando del sonido de las monedas al caer durante un premio. Su amor por los viajes la llevó a muchos lugares que disfrutó, incluyendo Las Vegas, donde vivía una de sus hijas, así como a Tennessee, Atlantic City, New York, Tunica y de regreso a El Salvador, un lugar que siempre permaneció muy cerca de su corazón.

María también fue una mujer que se preocupó por cuidarse. Era naturalmente hermosa y atenta a su salud, cuidadosa con su alimentación, y más adelante en su vida hizo cambios intencionales en su dieta para mejorar su bienestar. El cuidado que tenía por sí misma reflejaba el cuidado que ofrecía a los demás: era generosa, amorosa y siempre dispuesta a dar de sí misma.

Devota católica, la fe de María fue central en su vida. La religión era profundamente importante para ella, y asistía a la iglesia siempre que le era posible, encontrando consuelo, guía y fortaleza en sus creencias.

Por encima de todo, María estuvo profundamente dedicada a su familia. Fue una madre amorosa que trabajó incansablemente para criar a sus hijos con valores sólidos, bondad y responsabilidad. Su vida fue un testimonio de sacrificio, perseverancia y amor incondicional.

Le precedieron en la muerte su amado esposo, Silverio Trujillo; su hijo, Henry Trujillo; su hermano, Nicholas Dionicio Vides; y su hermana, Celsa Vides López.

María deja cinco queridos hijos: Roberto Trujillo y su esposa Eva Calles; Maribel Flores y su esposo Josue Noe Flores; Tony Trujillo y su esposa Tina Trujillo; Myrna Trujillo y su pareja Byron Koltinick; y Lorenza Beckner y su esposo Chris Beckner. También le sobrevive su querida hermana, Lena Vides.

Fue una orgullosa abuela de Anthony Trujillo, Ruth Trujillo-Pertew, Elvia R. Trujillo, Alexander Trujillo, Robert Trujillo, Austin Trujillo, Annaliese Trujillo, Rocío Menjívar, Alicia María Trujillo y David Trujillo, y una devota bisabuela de Tarek Pertew, Theo Pertew, Zoey Raquel Uibarri y Amaia Rae Uibarri.

Maria De Jesus Trujillo vivió una vida definida por el trabajo arduo, la fe, la risa y el amor por su familia. Su legado vive en las generaciones que ayudó a formar, en los sacrificios que hizo y en el ejemplo que dejó.
