Nilar Win Teel Obituary

Nilar Win Teel, 45, passed away far too soon, leaving behind a legacy defined by perseverance, kindness, and quiet strength.

Nilar was born on September 23, 1980, in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). She spent her early childhood there, surrounded by her family and culture, before relocating at the age of fourteen to Yangon, where she completed her studies equivalent to a high school education in the United States. From an early age, Nilar’s life reflected determination and courage, qualities that would shape her extraordinary journey.

Recognizing her potential and longing for broader opportunities, Nilar’s family hoped she might one day continue her education abroad. In 1998, a life-changing connection was made when Linda and Larry Moldauer met Nilar’s father, Khin Maung Win. Through friendship, compassion, and persistence, conversations began about the possibility of student visas for Nilar and her brother. The process was long and complex, but after years of effort, those hopes became reality. In 2002, her brother was able to move to the United States, and Nilar followed in 2004, opening a new chapter in her life.

Nilar embraced her education with determination and grace. She began her studies at Union County College before continuing on to Rutgers University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. Her academic success was a reflection of her disciplined work ethic and her deep sense of purpose.

In 2008, Linda and Larry Moldauer formally adopted Nilar and her brother, solidifying a bond that had already long been rooted in love, commitment, and family. life. She was preceded in death by her adopted father, Larry Moldauer, whose influence remained ever present in her life.

Nilar's professional career was one she took great pride in. She began working at Merck, where she was involved in product stewardship and authored data safety sheets, contributing thoughtfully and meticulously to her field. After several years, she continued her career at ExxonMobil, where she served as a Product Safety Specialist for nearly a decade. Nilar was an integral part of her team, respected for her intelligence, reliability, and dedication. She truly loved her work and, just as importantly, the people she worked alongside. Her colleagues cared deeply for her, and she will be profoundly missed within the ExxonMobil community.

It was through family connections that Nilar met the love of her life, Douglas Teel. While visiting her father Larry—who worked as a corporate pilot—Nilar met one of Larry’s coworkers, Douglas. Their relationship famously began with Douglas offering Nilar Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. From that simple kindness grew a deep and loving relationship, and the two were married in 2012. Their marriage was filled with devotion, companionship, and mutual respect.

Nilar was gentle, sweet, and genuinely kind—someone who made others feel instantly comfortable. She was approachable and warm, never intimidating, and people were naturally drawn to her calm presence. She was also incredibly hardworking and took pride in everything she did.

Outside of work, Nilar found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved shopping, especially for a new pair of shoes, and enjoyed traveling whenever possible. She had a passion for gardening and took meticulous pride in her home, possessing a keen eye for detail and beauty. She was also a devoted caregiver, especially to the family’s large dog, Maximus, whom she loved dearly and cared for with tenderness and patience.

Above all else, family was the center of Nilar’s world. She adored children, particularly her nieces and nephews, and cherished her time with them. Her love for her husband, her adopted parents, her siblings, and her extended family was unwavering and profound.

Nilar is survived by her beloved husband, Douglas Teel; her adopted mother, Linda Moldauer; her mother, Myint Myint San; her father, Khin Maung Win; her brothers Derek and his wife Meme, and Winston and his wife Soe Thiri; her nieces Lily, Emma, and Katherine; her nephews Michael, Eli, and Logan; and her cherished dog, Maximus. She is also survived by a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply and remember her always.

Cremation services will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made in Nilar's name to the ABBA: American Burma Buddhist Association, 63 Gordons Corner Rd, Manalapan, NJ 07726 .

Nilar’s life was one of resilience, generosity, and quiet grace. Though her time here was far too short, her impact was lasting, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
