Anne J Fosbre Obituary
Anne June Fosbre passed away Monday, March 9, 2026, at Mire Vie Assisted Living in Warren at the age of 94.
Born in Plainfield to the late Tony and Alice (Alexander) DeAngelis. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1949, where she met her future husband, Joseph Fosbre. Her first two years of high school were spent at Holy Trinity in Westfield. She loved to tell how she, with her friends, Pat and Peggy, perfected the art of pocketing their daily train fare by hiding from and tormenting the poor conductor. She continued to attend reunions of both high schools her whole life.
Anne married Joe in 1950. They started their life together in Plainfield and later moved to Greenbrook. They raised their seven children in a big old house, full of noise, food, fun and hard work; an ethic they instilled in all their kids. They raised many bull mastiffs and bred some for puppies, along with a menagerie of other pets. Anne loved animals and even had a pair of pet goats and, later, a pair of pet sheep.
Anne was a great cook and baker. She loved to entertain. There was always a fresh pot of coffee, and her kitchen would be the place for friends, neighbors, and family to hang out and talk. She used any excuse for a party, be it a ladies' club luncheon, cookie exchanges, or just to have friends over. No birthday passed without your favorite pie, cake, or doll cake, homemade by mom.
Anne loved all holidays and always hosted big Thanksgiving dinners, Halloween costume parties, and of course, Christmas. Her and Joe’s Greenbrook house and yard were used for the TWIGS annual Strandberg Festival that benefited the local hospital.
Together with Joe, they had a very busy social life participating in Cotillion, Cork and Fork, and the Green Brook Swim Club. Their famous New Year’s Day breakfast was held at every home they lived in for over forty years. They enjoyed garage sales, auctions, and finding antiques to add to their collections. She never turned down a trip to a casino.
Anne had many interests which led to joining clubs from garden, investment, and poker. She loved a bus trip to New York to shop, eat lunch, see a play, and people-watch. Her grandkids always got a special New York trip alone with “Mame” for their birthdays. They loved to travel and visited many countries, with England being a favorite.
Anne was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Italian American Club, where she loved to win at bocce.
Anne was a real estate agent for 40-plus years. With her knack for finding good deals or fixer-uppers, and Joe’s talent for renovation, together with their sons, they were flipping houses for resale or rent before it even had that name.
Their biggest flip was in the 1980s when they redesigned and built a home from an old Readington cow barn for the remaining family still at home. In 1992, as empty nesters, they turned it into the Holly Thorne House, a successful bed-and-breakfast, which Anne ran till 2007. Moving to Stockton and then later to White House Station.
Above all, Anne will be remembered as a beautiful woman inside and out. She had a wonderful sense of color and style. She carried herself with elegance and poise. She took great pride in her family and home.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Joe Fosbre; her son, Henry Fosbre; her daughters-in-law, Susan Fosbre and Debbie Velard; and her sister, Carol Lee Kolfenbach.
Anne is survived by her loving children, Joanne Hendershot and her husband Richard, Jeffrey Fosbre, Nancy Fosbre, Kimberly Fosbre and her wife Holly Poglase, Peter Fosbre, and Jane Trojanowski and her husband Frank. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Tara Fosbre and Brian Fosbre and his wife Rebecca; her adored great-grandchildren, Finnegan, Phoebe, and Ophelia; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, New Jersey 07069, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Dunellen, New Jersey. Cremation services will be held privately.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mira Vie Memory Care and Grace Hospice for the love and care they showed our mom.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Anne’s memory to one of the charities she supported. The ASPCA, No Kid Hungry, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
