Charles LaRosa Obituary

Charles LaRosa, 97, passed away on March 11, 2026, the same day his beloved wife died 14 years before.

Born on December 19, 1928, in Long Island, New York, Charles moved to Sicily, Italy, shortly after his birth, where he was raised. His early years were marked by hardship, helping to shape the quiet strength, resilience, and independence that would define his life. As a young man, he learned the trade of carpentry, a skill he carried with pride throughout his life.

At the age of 23, Charles returned to the United States and joined the United States Army, proudly serving during the Korean War. During his time in the military, he was injured in a friendly fire incident and was later honorably discharged after spending over a year in various hospitals for his injuries. Despite that setback, Charles persevered.  He met his future wife, settled in Brooklyn, NY, got married, and continued building a successful career as a carpenter, a profession that reflected both his craftsmanship and strong work ethic.

Charles was a deeply religious man whose faith remained a guiding force throughout his life. He was a devoted parishioner most recently of Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Warren, where he worshiped with his family. When he was no longer able to attend in person, he faithfully watched Mass each day by livestream.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially those that brought him outdoors. Charles enjoyed walking in nature, gardening, woodworking, and hunting. Of course, true to his Sicilian roots, he loved good food, especially his wife’s cooking.  Above all, he treasured being close to his family, whose love and presence meant everything to him.

Charles was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marianna (Marion) LaRosa, in March of 2012; his brother, Anthony LaRosa; and his sister, Eva Bendig.

He is survived by his loving son, Joseph LaRosa, and his wife, Patricia; and by his three cherished grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth LaRosa, Dr. Joseph LaRosa, and Jillian LaRosa, all of whom made him incredibly proud.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, New Jersey.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday at St Francis of Assisi in Astoria, Queens, followed by interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery in East Elmhurst, New York, where Charles will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife.
