Helen Elizabeth Skidmore, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at her home in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Helen spent her early childhood there before moving with her family to Millburn, New Jersey, where she was raised and graduated from Millburn High School. She went on to further her education at business school, beginning a career shortly thereafter with Ciba-Geigy, a pharmaceutical company in Summit, New Jersey, where she worked in the finance and accounting department.

While spending time with friends at a bowling alley in Mountainside, New Jersey, Helen met the love of her life, Gerald Skidmore. Their relationship quickly blossomed into a lifelong partnership built on love, devotion, and companionship. They married and shared 68 wonderful years together.

Helen resided in Summit, New Jersey, followed by New Providence, New Jersey, before settling in Berkeley Heights, where she remained for the rest of her life.

After starting her family, Helen made the decision to devote herself fully to her home and children, embracing her role as a homemaker with pride and deep love. It was a role she truly cherished – her children were her life!

Helen was a woman of faith. She was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Summit, where she was married, and later became a devoted member of the Church of the Little Flower in Berkeley Heights.

She had a deep love for sunshine and warm weather. Helen and her family enjoyed more than 50 years at their beach home in Monterey Beach in Lavallette, New Jersey where they created many lasting memories. Helen also treasured family vacations, especially trips to Florida and Arizona. She loved going out to dinner at a variety of local restaurants with her husband and family, but above all, one of her greatest joys in life was the time she spent with her beloved grandson, Kevin.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Gerald Alfred Skidmore Sr.; her three children, Gerald “Jerry” Skidmore Jr. and his wife Lorrie, Patricia Kruge and her husband David, and Sue Skidmore; and her cherished grandson, Kevin Kruge.

She was predeceased by her brother, Charles O’Donnell Jr, along with her loving parents Cornelia and Charles Sr.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, New Jersey 07069.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 9:30 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit, New Jersey 07901, followed by entombment at St. Teresa Cemetery, Summit, New Jersey.
