Elrick Anson Murray, MD Obituary
We announce the passing of Dr. Elrick A. Murray, MD, of Warren, New Jersey. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, physician, and friend, and often known to others as Elrick or Rick, his life was marked by unwavering commitment to the well-being of his patients, the love of his family, and the enrichment of his community. His legacy is one of compassion, excellence, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Elrick was born in Barbados, the son of Ralph and Louise Murray, with 5 sisters and brothers, Monica, Princess, Joan, Darcy, and Barbara. At a young age, Elrick traveled to the United States to continue his education, cared for by Frank and Ruth Marshall.
Raised with a passion for learning and service, Elrick began his academic journey at Howard University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He continued his education at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), obtaining his medical degree. Elrick completed a residency in Psychiatry at UMDNJ before pursuing his true calling in women’s health, serving as Chief Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Over an esteemed career spanning more than thirty years, Elrick established and operated successful medical practices in Plainfield and Howell, New Jersey. He was affiliated with JFK University Medical Center and was a valued member of the RWJBarnabas Health network, serving countless families with compassion and professionalism throughout his years of practice.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Elrick embraced life fully. He treasured time at his beloved beach home in Long Beach Island, enjoyed the camaraderie of the Surf City Yacht Club, and found freedom in aviation as a skilled pilot of his own Cessna 152 airplane, Casper. He delighted in driving his classic Porsche 911 and was passionate about travel, especially journeys to U.S. Virgin Islands, Rome, London, Athens and Mykonos, Paris and the South of France, Venice, Switzerland, Martha’s Vineyard, Sag Harbor, St. Croix, St.
Lucia, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and, of course, his birthplace, Barbados—all destinations that brought him peace and happiness.
Elrick’s life was a testament to dedication, warmth, and generosity. His presence enriched the lives of his family, friends, patients, and community, leaving an indelible mark that will endure for generations. He will be lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dr. Elrick Murray is survived by his loving wife, Belinda Murray, with whom he shared a loving marriage of over 50 years. He was the proud father of Acklyn (daughter-in-law, Cassandra), Nicole (fiancé, John), and Morgan (son-in-law, Christopher), and cherished grandfather to Jackson, Mia, and Riley. He also cherished the close bond he shared with his sisters-in-law, Barbara and Kim. His entire family was the heart of his world, and he found immense joy in their achievements.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to everyone for your prayers, kind thoughts, sincere condolences, and your expressions of love. They are greatly appreciated. May God bless you and keep you!
