Joseph C. Meyer Obituary
Joseph C. Meyer, 92, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Francis E. Parker Memorial Home in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Born on February 2, 1934, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Margareta Meyer. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.
Joseph had resided in South Plainfield before moving in 1961 to the home where he would spend the rest of his life. It was there that he and his beloved wife, Barbara, created not just a house, but a true haven. Their home was something very special to them both, a place they deeply loved and cared for with great pride, devotion, and attention over the years.
Joseph worked faithfully throughout his life as a plumber. He began his career with the Fred Hummel Company, where he dedicated 30 years of service. After the shop closed, he continued his work at Rutgers University, where he remained for the rest of his career until retirement.
He was a loyal sports fan who enjoyed cheering on the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Joseph was also a devoted animal lover, and together he and Barbara shared a special fondness for dogs, especially Shelties. Their family will always remember that they seemed to have three or four at a time, lovingly raising, training, and showing them. Joseph was a familiar and beloved presence in his neighborhood, often seen walking two or three Shelties at once on his long leash, meeting neighbors and making friends along the way. He truly cherished those walks and the simple joy they brought him. Joseph and Barbara also loved taking their dogs to Toms River during the off-season, where they enjoyed peaceful walks along the beach.
Above all else, Joseph treasured the life he shared with Barbara. Theirs was a rare and beautiful relationship, one marked by constant companionship, deep affection, and unwavering devotion. They were always by each other’s side, and to those who knew them, their bond was truly something special. He was heartbroken by Barbara’s passing just two months ago and missed her deeply every day.
Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara J. Meyer, who passed away on February 9, 2026, as well as by his sister, Louise Walz.
He is survived by his four nieces, whom he considered the daughters he never had, Anita Brower, Linda Salvatore, Donna Turlik, and Dawn Rosati.
