Barbara A Rzewuska Obituary
Barbara A. Rzewuska, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Watchung, surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born on February 26, 1935, in Ropica, Poland. It was in Poland that she spent much of her life before moving to the United States in 1995 to be closer to her daughter and family. She first settled in Westfield and later moved to Watchung, where she remained close to those she loved most.
The center of Barbara’s life was always her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from caring for the people she loved. Her move to the United States was a reflection of that devotion, as she came to help her daughter raise her children and to be present for the everyday moments that meant so much to her. Whether spending time with her grandchildren, preparing a meal, or simply being surrounded by family, Barbara found her purpose and happiness in the lives of those closest to her.
Barbara also enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking. She was especially known for her apple pie and for her beloved chicken soup, rosół, which she prepared with love no matter the season—whether it was five degrees outside or one hundred and five. It became a cherished after-school treat and a lasting memory for her family. In her younger years, Barbara also enjoyed camping and traveling, but wherever life took her, family remained her heart. She also shared a special bond with her dog, Rocky, whom she loved deeply.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Waclaw Rzewuski.
She is survived by her two children, Jaroslaw and his wife Ewa and Joanna Denis; her six grandchildren, Przemek and his wife, Veronica, Piotr and his wife, Agnieszka, Miriam, Stella and her husband, Bogusz, Daniel and his wife, Kassie, and Robert; and her eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ 07069.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Roman Catholic Church in Watchung. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
Following the committal service, family and friends are invited to gather at Alfie’s Restaurant in Warren.
